04 - 1/2 teaspoon salt
05 - 1/2 cup unsalted butter, softened
06 - 1 cup light brown sugar
07 - 1 large egg
08 - 3/4 cup buttermilk
09 - 1 tablespoon red food coloring
10 - 1 teaspoon vanilla extract

→ For the Filling

11 - 8 ounces cream cheese, softened
12 - 1/4 cup unsalted butter, softened
13 - 2 cups powdered sugar
14 - 1 teaspoon vanilla extract

→ Decorations and Garnish

15 - 1/2 cup candied walnuts, finely chopped
16 - 1/4 cup fresh cranberries or blackberries
17 - 10 sprigs fresh rosemary or cedar
18 - 2 tablespoons powdered sugar, for dusting

# Steps:

01 - Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Line baking sheet with parchment paper. In a medium bowl, whisk together flour, cocoa powder, baking soda, and salt until evenly combined.
02 - In a large mixing bowl, cream the softened butter and light brown sugar together on medium speed until light and fluffy.
03 - Add egg to the butter mixture and mix until incorporated. Pour in buttermilk, vanilla extract, and red food coloring. Blend until the batter is homogeneous.
04 - Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet mixture, stirring just until combined. Do not overmix.
05 - Using a piping bag or spoon, portion 2-inch rounds of batter onto the lined baking sheet, spacing evenly. Bake for 10-12 minutes or until set. Allow to cool completely on a wire rack.
06 - In a clean bowl, beat the cream cheese and softened butter together until completely smooth. Gradually mix in powdered sugar and vanilla extract, beating until fluffy. Refrigerate briefly if needed for easier piping.
07 - Pipe a layer of cream cheese filling onto the flat side of one cooled cake. Roll the filling edge in finely chopped candied walnuts for a decorative wreath finish. Top with a second cake to form a sandwich.
08 - Pipe a decorative swirl of frosting on top. Garnish with a fresh cranberry or blackberry and a sprig of rosemary or cedar. Dust with powdered sugar before serving for a snow effect.

# Notes:

01 - Chilling the filled cakes for 30 minutes before serving helps set the filling and enhances the texture.
