01 -
Preheat oven to 230°C. Coat a 23×23-centimeter oven-safe glass or ceramic baking dish with nonstick cooking spray containing flour.
02 -
In a medium bowl, whisk together all-purpose flour, granulated sugar, and baking powder until evenly blended.
03 -
Pour buttermilk into the dry mixture and stir until a thick, sticky batter forms. If the mixture appears dry, incorporate additional buttermilk in small increments.
04 -
Gently fold diced ham and shredded cheddar cheese into the batter until well distributed.
05 -
Melt salted butter in a microwave-safe bowl. Pour the melted butter into the prepared baking dish, coating the bottom evenly.
06 -
Spread the dough evenly over the melted butter in the baking dish, using hands sprayed with nonstick spray for ease.
07 -
Using a knife, cut the dough into 9 squares to assist with portioning after baking.
08 -
Place the dish on the middle oven rack and bake for 25–30 minutes, rotating halfway through for even browning. Shield with foil if top browns too quickly.
09 -
Biscuits are ready when golden on top and spring back when gently pressed. A toothpick inserted in the center should come out clean. Cut along scored lines and serve warm.
