Allow cheddar, Monterey Jack, and Provolone cheeses to stand at room temperature for 15 minutes to enhance meltability.

Arrange bacon strips on a baking sheet and bake at 400°F for 15 to 20 minutes until crisp. Remove and set aside.

Preheat a skillet or griddle over medium-low heat.

Spread softened butter evenly on one side of each bread slice.

Place half the bread slices butter-side down onto the skillet. Layer each with cheddar, Monterey Jack, and Provolone slices. Top each with two strips of bacon, drizzle with ranch dressing, and add jalapeños or caramelized onions if desired. Place remaining bread slices on top, butter-side up.
