Texas Roadhouse Smothered Chicken (Print Version)

Tender chicken with onions, mushrooms, melted cheese, and savory gravy for hearty comfort.

# Ingredients:

→ Poultry

01 - 4 boneless, skinless chicken breasts

→ Seasonings

02 - 1 teaspoon garlic powder
03 - 1 teaspoon paprika
04 - Salt, to taste
05 - Black pepper, to taste

→ Dairy

06 - 4 slices provolone cheese or mozzarella
07 - 2 tablespoons butter

→ Vegetables

08 - 1 medium onion, thinly sliced
09 - 1 cup mushrooms, sliced

→ Fats and Oils

10 - 2 tablespoons olive oil

→ Flour and Broth

11 - 2 tablespoons all-purpose flour
12 - 1.5 cups chicken broth

# Steps:

01 - Evenly coat the chicken breasts with garlic powder, paprika, salt, and black pepper.
02 - Heat olive oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat. Cook chicken breasts for 4 to 5 minutes per side until golden brown, without fully cooking through.
03 - Melt butter in the same skillet. Add sliced onions and mushrooms and sauté over medium heat, stirring occasionally, until soft and caramelized, about 8 to 10 minutes.
04 - Sprinkle flour over the caramelized onions and mushrooms. Stir to coat evenly and cook for 1 minute. Gradually add chicken broth, whisking constantly, and simmer until a smooth, thickened gravy forms.
05 - Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C). Arrange the seared chicken breasts in a baking dish. Cover each piece with the onion-mushroom mixture and a slice of cheese. Pour the prepared gravy over all. Cover tightly with foil and bake for 20 to 25 minutes, until the chicken reaches an internal temperature of 165°F (74°C) and the cheese is fully melted.

# Notes:

01 - Allow the chicken to rest for a few minutes after baking for optimal juiciness.
