Smothered Hamburger Steaks Magic (Print Version)

Hamburger steaks cooked in mushroom gravy with onions for a cozy and satisfying meal.

# Ingredients:

→ For the patties

01 - 1 pound ground beef
02 - 1/4 cup dry breadcrumbs
03 - 1 large egg
04 - 1/4 cup finely minced onion
05 - 1 teaspoon salt
06 - 1/4 teaspoon ground black pepper

→ For the gravy

07 - 2 tablespoons unsalted butter
08 - 1 medium yellow onion, thinly sliced
09 - 2 cloves garlic, minced
10 - 1 can (10.5 ounces) condensed cream of mushroom soup
11 - 1/4 cup water
12 - 2 tablespoons Worcestershire sauce

# Steps:

01 - In a large mixing bowl, blend ground beef with breadcrumbs, egg, minced onion, salt, and pepper until just combined. Divide and form mixture into four even patties.
02 - Melt butter in a large skillet over medium heat. Add sliced onion and garlic; cook, stirring frequently, until onion is golden and fragrant, about 5 minutes.
03 - Stir cream of mushroom soup, water, and Worcestershire sauce into the skillet with the softened onions and garlic. Mix well to combine.
04 - Arrange beef patties in the pan, nestling them into the gravy. Spoon sauce over each patty to ensure even coverage.
05 - Bring the sauce to a gentle simmer. Reduce heat to low, cover the skillet, and cook for 20 minutes, or until patties are cooked through and infused with flavor.
06 - Transfer hamburger steaks to serving plates and ladle plenty of mushroom onion gravy over each. Garnish as desired and serve hot over rice or mashed potatoes.

# Notes:

01 - For richer flavor, use 80/20 ground beef and ensure not to overmix the meat to maintain tenderness.
