# Ingredients:

→ Burgers

01 - 1 pound 80/20 ground beef
02 - 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
03 - 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
04 - 1 teaspoon salt, plus additional to taste
05 - 1/2 teaspoon cracked black pepper, plus additional to taste
06 - 8 slices American cheese

→ For Assembly

07 - 4 hamburger buns, buttered and toasted
08 - Shredded lettuce
09 - Sliced tomatoes
10 - Pickles
11 - Sliced onion
12 - Smashburger sauce

# Steps:

01 - In a large bowl, gently mix ground beef, Worcestershire sauce, and garlic powder until just incorporated.
02 - Divide the beef mixture into 8 equal balls, approximately 2 ounces each.
03 - Heat a cast-iron skillet or flat-top griddle on high until thoroughly hot.
04 - Place beef balls onto the hot surface and use a burger press or sturdy spatula to smash them very thin.
05 - Season patties with salt and cracked black pepper. Cook for 45 to 60 seconds, until edges are browned and crisp.
06 - Flip each patty, season again lightly, and immediately top each with a slice of American cheese.
07 - Stack two patties together for each burger to create four double cheeseburgers.
08 - Transfer double patties to toasted buns. Top with shredded lettuce, sliced tomato, pickles, onion, and Smashburger sauce as desired.
09 - Serve immediately while hot and juicy.

# Notes:

01 - Handle the beef mixture as little as possible to prevent dense patties. For best results, use a heavy cast-iron skillet at high heat to achieve crisp edges.
