Root Beer Baked Beans (Print Version)

Sweet root beer and smoky bacon elevate these tender, hearty baked beans for an irresistible side.

# Ingredients:

01 - 6 slices bacon
02 - 1 medium onion, diced
03 - 2 cans (15 ounces each) pork and beans
04 - 3/4 cup regular root beer
05 - 1/2 cup smoky barbecue sauce
06 - 1-2 teaspoons hot sauce, to taste

# Steps:

01 - Preheat oven to 400°F (204°C).
02 - In a skillet over medium heat, cook bacon until crisp. Transfer cooked bacon to a plate lined with paper towels. Reserve 2 tablespoons of rendered bacon fat in skillet.
03 - Increase skillet heat to high and add diced onion. Sauté for 5 minutes or until onion is golden and tender.
04 - In a greased 1-quart baking dish, combine cooked onion, crumbled bacon, pork and beans, root beer, barbecue sauce, and hot sauce. Stir thoroughly to integrate ingredients.
05 - Transfer dish to oven and bake uncovered for 55 minutes or until sauce is bubbling and thickened at the edges.
06 - Remove from oven and let beans rest for 5 minutes before serving.

# Notes:

01 - For deeper flavor, allow beans to rest for an additional 10 minutes before serving. Taste and adjust hot sauce as preferred.
