Preheat oven to 400°F (204°C).

In a skillet over medium heat, cook bacon until crisp. Transfer cooked bacon to a plate lined with paper towels. Reserve 2 tablespoons of rendered bacon fat in skillet.

Increase skillet heat to high and add diced onion. Sauté for 5 minutes or until onion is golden and tender.

In a greased 1-quart baking dish, combine cooked onion, crumbled bacon, pork and beans, root beer, barbecue sauce, and hot sauce. Stir thoroughly to integrate ingredients.

Transfer dish to oven and bake uncovered for 55 minutes or until sauce is bubbling and thickened at the edges.

Remove from oven and let beans rest for 5 minutes before serving.
