Philly Steak Cheese Fries (Print Version)

Tender steak, peppers, and onions atop crispy waffle fries, smothered in melted cheese for a hearty dish.

# Ingredients:

→ Main Components

01 - 1 pound ribeye or sirloin steak, very thinly sliced
02 - 1 teaspoon garlic salt
03 - 1/2 teaspoon ground black pepper
04 - 1 medium green bell pepper, thinly sliced
05 - 1 large yellow onion, thinly sliced
06 - 8 to 10 slices white American cheese
07 - 20 ounces frozen waffle-cut French fries
08 - 1 tablespoon olive oil

# Steps:

01 - Allow steak to rest at room temperature for 10 minutes to facilitate thin slicing. Slice steak against the grain into thin strips. Cut the bell pepper and onion into thin slices.
02 - Preheat an oven-safe skillet over medium-high heat. Add olive oil, then introduce sliced steak. Season evenly with garlic salt and black pepper. Cook, stirring frequently, for 3 to 4 minutes or until the meat is browned. Remove steak from skillet and set aside.
03 - Retain about 1 tablespoon of rendered steak juices in the skillet. Add sliced bell pepper and onion. Sauté for 4 to 5 minutes, stirring occasionally, until the vegetables are softened yet still retain a slight crunch. Remove from heat and set aside with the steak.
04 - Preheat the oven to 425°F (220°C). Arrange frozen waffle fries in a single layer either in the skillet or on a baking sheet. Bake for 15 to 18 minutes, flipping half-way through baking to ensure even crisping.
05 - Once the fries are golden, remove from the oven. Lay 4 slices of white American cheese evenly over the fries. Scatter the cooked steak, bell pepper, and onion over the cheese layer. Top with another 4 to 6 slices of American cheese, covering the toppings as much as possible.
06 - Return the skillet or baking sheet to the oven. Bake an additional 8 to 10 minutes, or until cheese is fully melted and bubbling. For added crispness, broil for 1 to 2 minutes, monitoring closely to prevent burning.
07 - Allow to cool for 1 to 2 minutes before serving. Present directly from the skillet or transfer to a serving platter. Garnish with fresh parsley, sliced green onions, or jalapeño if desired.

# Notes:

01 - For the best texture, slice steak while still partially chilled, and use a sharp chef’s knife.
