Kool Aid Licorice Ropes (Print Version)

Chewy, colorful licorice ropes bursting with fruity Kool-Aid flavor. Perfect for snacking or sharing.

# Ingredients:

→ Candy Base

01 - 1 cup granulated sugar
02 - 1/4 cup light corn syrup
03 - 1/4 cup water
04 - 1 tablespoon lemon juice
05 - 1/2 teaspoon salt

→ Flavoring & Color

06 - 2 packets Kool-Aid drink mix, any preferred flavor
07 - Food coloring, as needed for desired intensity (optional)

→ Finishing

08 - 2 tablespoons cornstarch, for dusting

# Steps:

01 - In a medium saucepan, place granulated sugar, light corn syrup, water, lemon juice, and salt. Stir gently over medium heat until the sugar fully dissolves.
02 - Increase the heat to bring the mixture to a boil without stirring. Attach a candy thermometer and heat until the temperature reaches 260°F (hard-ball stage).
03 - Immediately remove from heat. Stir in Kool-Aid drink mix packets and food coloring if using, mixing thoroughly until homogenous.
04 - Lightly grease a flat surface or use parchment paper. Dust the surface with cornstarch. Pour the hot candy onto the prepared surface.
05 - Allow candy to cool just until safe to handle but still pliable. Stretch, pull, and fold repeatedly until glossy and elastic. Shape into ropes approximately 1/2 inch thick.
06 - Slice ropes into preferred lengths and dust with additional cornstarch to prevent sticking. Allow ropes to fully cool and set before serving.

# Notes:

01 - Work quickly after the candy reaches temperature: once cooled, it becomes difficult to shape.
02 - Always use caution when handling hot sugar syrups to avoid burns.
