Sift the matcha powder into a small bowl or mug using a fine mesh strainer. This important step removes any clumps for a smoother drink.

Pour in 2 ounces of hot water (ideally around 175°F). Using a bamboo whisk or small regular whisk, briskly whisk from side to side until the matcha is fully dissolved and a nice foamy layer forms on top.

Add the remaining 6 ounces of hot water or your preferred steamed milk. Whisk again until frothy. If desired, sweeten to taste with a little maple syrup or honey, especially if your matcha is on the bitter side.
