Preheat oven to 180°C.

Slice the baguette into 1.5 cm wide pieces, approximately the width of a finger.

Place the diced tomatoes and onions into a sieve over a bowl. Season generously with salt, stir, and set aside to release excess liquid.

Add minced garlic to a chopping board with a pinch of salt. Use the side of a knife to repeatedly squish and drag the garlic until it forms a paste.

Combine the garlic paste with olive oil in a mixing bowl. Season with a pinch of salt and mix well.

Lightly brush the bread slices with half of the garlic oil and arrange them on a baking tray. Bake for 7 minutes until lightly toasted.

Add drained tomato and onion mixture to a mixing bowl. Stir in the remaining garlic oil and season with additional salt, if needed.

Top the toasted bread slices with the tomato and onion mixture. Garnish with fresh chopped basil.
