In a large bowl, combine ground chuck, sour cream, ranch dressing mix, crumbled bacon, and shredded cheddar cheese. Mix until ingredients are just evenly distributed, taking care not to overwork the meat.

Divide the mixture into 6 equal portions and form into hamburger patties of uniform thickness. Press a slight dimple in the center of each patty to help ensure even cooking.

Preheat grill, grill pan, or skillet to medium heat. Grill the patties to preferred doneness—approximately 130-135°F for medium-rare, 140-145°F for medium, and 160°F for well-done—flipping them carefully. Allow the patties to rest a few minutes before assembly.

Toast hamburger buns if desired. Place grilled patties on buns and top with lettuce, sliced tomato, mustard, and mayonnaise. Add additional toppings as preferred and serve immediately.
