01 -
Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Lightly grease a 9x13-inch baking dish. Open cinnamon roll cans, reserve the icing, and flatten each pastry into a disc shape.
02 -
In a skillet over medium heat, melt unsalted butter. Add sliced apples, brown sugar, cinnamon, and nutmeg. Cook for 5 to 7 minutes, stirring occasionally, until apples are fragrant and tender.
03 -
Arrange half of the flattened cinnamon rolls on the bottom of the prepared baking dish, covering completely. Evenly distribute half of the cooked apple mixture over the dough. Drizzle a portion of the cream cheese frosting on top.
04 -
Layer remaining cinnamon roll discs over the apples. Spread the rest of the apple mixture over the rolls, followed by another drizzle of frosting.
05 -
Top with any remaining cinnamon roll discs, if needed. Bake in the preheated oven for 25 to 30 minutes, or until the pastry is golden brown and fully cooked.
06 -
Remove from the oven and immediately spread the remaining cream cheese frosting over the warm pastry. Sprinkle chopped pecans or walnuts over the top before serving.
