01 -
Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Lightly grease a 9x13-inch baking dish. Open cinnamon roll cans and reserve the icing. Flatten each roll into a small disc.
02 -
In a large skillet over medium heat, melt unsalted butter. Add apple slices, brown sugar, cinnamon, and nutmeg. Sauté for 5 to 7 minutes, stirring occasionally, until the apples are tender.
03 -
Arrange half of the flattened cinnamon rolls in a single layer at the bottom of the prepared baking dish. Evenly distribute half of the cooked apple mixture over the rolls. Drizzle a portion of the cream cheese frosting on top.
04 -
Repeat the layering sequence with the remaining flattened cinnamon rolls, followed by the rest of the apple mixture and a drizzle of frosting, finishing with a final layer of cinnamon rolls on top.
05 -
Place the baking dish in the preheated oven and bake for 25 to 30 minutes, or until the top is golden brown and the rolls are cooked through.
06 -
Remove from the oven and immediately spread remaining cream cheese frosting over the surface. Sprinkle with chopped pecans or walnuts if using. Let cool slightly before slicing and serving.
