Cheesy Sausage and Rice Skillet (Print Version)

Cheddar, sausage, broccoli, and rice cook together for a quick, hearty skillet dinner.

# Ingredients:

01 - 16 ounces smoked sausage, sliced into rounds or half moons
02 - 2 tablespoons unsalted butter
03 - 2 cups steamed broccoli, chopped
04 - 2 boxes (6.5 ounces each) Rice-A-Roni, original flavour
05 - 8 ounces sharp cheddar cheese, shredded

# Steps:

01 - Heat a large non-stick skillet over medium heat and add the butter. Once melted, add the sliced smoked sausage and sauté for 3 to 4 minutes, until browned.
02 - Remove the seasoning packets from the Rice-A-Roni boxes and set aside. Add the rice mixture from both boxes to the skillet and cook for 1 to 2 minutes, stirring to coat the rice in the butter and sausage drippings.
03 - Pour in 5 cups of water to the skillet. Stir in the reserved seasoning packets from the Rice-A-Roni and mix thoroughly. Reduce the heat to low, cover, and simmer for 20 minutes.
04 - While the rice and sausage cook, steam the broccoli florets until tender, then chop them into bite-sized pieces.
05 - Stir the chopped steamed broccoli into the skillet. Add the shredded sharp cheddar cheese and mix until fully combined and the cheese is melted. Serve immediately.

01 - For best results, shred the cheddar cheese fresh for optimal melting.
