Cheesy Hamburger French Fry Casserole (Print Version)

Golden fries, savory beef, creamy sauce, and fresh toppings combine for true comfort in every bite.

# Ingredients:

→ Main Components

01 - 24 ounces frozen crinkle-cut french fries (Ore-Ida Golden Crinkles recommended)
02 - 2 pounds ground beef
03 - 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
04 - 22 ounces canned cream of mushroom soup (Campbell’s suggested)
05 - 3 teaspoons steak sauce
06 - 2 1/4 cups cheddar cheese, freshly shredded from a block

→ Fresh Toppings

07 - pickles, thinly sliced
08 - lettuce, chopped
09 - tomatoes, diced into 1/2-inch pieces
10 - onions, sliced

# Steps:

01 - Preheat oven to 375°F. While oven heats, thinly slice the pickles, chop lettuce, dice tomatoes into 1/2-inch pieces, and slice onions. Measure garlic powder and steak sauce. Shred cheddar cheese from a block and set aside.
02 - Spread frozen french fries in a single layer on a baking tray and bake in the preheated 375°F oven for 20 minutes until par-cooked and beginning to crisp.
03 - In a large skillet over medium-high heat, cook ground beef, breaking it apart until no pink remains, about 5-7 minutes. Drain excess fat. Stir in garlic powder, then add cream of mushroom soup and steak sauce. Mix well and cook over medium heat for 2-3 minutes until heated through and combined.
04 - Transfer beef mixture to a 9x13-inch baking dish, spreading evenly. Arrange partially baked french fries over the beef layer. Top with shredded cheddar cheese, distributing evenly. Return dish to the 375°F oven and bake an additional 10 minutes, or until the cheese is fully melted and bubbling.
05 - Remove casserole from oven and allow to rest for 2-3 minutes. Serve with prepared pickles, lettuce, tomatoes, and onions, letting guests customize their portions with the fresh toppings to taste.

# Notes:

01 - Shredding cheddar cheese from a block, rather than using packaged pre-shredded cheese, results in superior melt and creaminess.
02 - French fries hold their texture best when partially baked before combining with the beef and cheese layers.
