Blackberry Fluffy Sweet Dumplings (Print Version)

Juicy blackberries and soft dumplings unite in a comforting, old-fashioned dessert best served warm.

# Ingredients:

→ Berry Base

01 - 1 quart fresh or frozen blackberries, rinsed
02 - 1 cup water
03 - 1 cup granulated sugar
04 - 1/2 teaspoon salt
05 - 1/2 teaspoon lemon extract

→ Dumplings

06 - 1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
07 - 2 teaspoons baking powder
08 - 1 tablespoon granulated sugar
09 - 1/4 teaspoon salt
10 - 1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg
11 - 2/3 cup whole milk

# Steps:

01 - In a large, wide saucepan, combine blackberries, water, 1 cup granulated sugar, 1/2 teaspoon salt, and lemon extract. Bring to a gentle boil over medium heat, stirring occasionally.
02 - Reduce heat to low and simmer the berry mixture for 5 minutes to allow the flavors to meld.
03 - In a separate bowl, whisk together flour, baking powder, 1 tablespoon granulated sugar, 1/4 teaspoon salt, and nutmeg. Gradually add milk and stir until a soft dough forms; do not overmix.
04 - Drop spoonfuls of dumpling batter (about 1 tablespoon each) into the simmering berry mixture, spacing evenly.
05 - Cover the saucepan tightly and simmer over low heat for 15 minutes without lifting the lid, ensuring the dumplings steam and cook through.
06 - Ladle hot berry mixture and dumplings into bowls. Optionally serve with vanilla ice cream or fresh whipped cream.

# Notes:

01 - Avoid removing the lid during simmering to achieve tender dumplings.
