Balsamic Strawberry Toast (Print Version)

# Ingredients:

01 - 1 cup strawberries (fresh or frozen)
02 - 1 teaspoon balsamic vinegar
03 - 2 tablespoons white sugar
04 - 4 slices bread
05 - 1/4 cup cream cheese
06 - Fresh basil leaves

# Instructions:

01 - In a small bowl, combine the strawberries, balsamic vinegar, and sugar. Mix them together thoroughly.
02 - Set the mixture aside for about 5 minutes to allow the flavors to meld and the strawberries to release their juices. This step can also be done well in advance and stored in an airtight container in the fridge.
03 - Toast your bread slices in a toaster or fry them in a pan until they're crispy and golden brown.
04 - Spread one to two tablespoons of cream cheese evenly over each slice of toast.
05 - Give the strawberry mixture a quick stir - it should be saucy by now. Spoon some of the strawberries and their juice over each cream cheese-covered toast.
06 - Top each toast with a few fresh basil leaves and enjoy right away while the toast is still warm and crispy!

# Notes:

01 - The strawberry mixture can be made 2-3 days in advance and kept in the refrigerator.
02 - Feel free to use your favorite type of bread - brioche, ciabatta, or a crusty loaf all work wonderfully.
03 - For a variation, you can substitute the bread with crackers or baguette slices to make bruschetta-style appetizers.
